Finding a Sense of Place

Irving Arts Center, March 10 - April 1, 2018

Jones’ MFA thesis exhibition. This series expanded off his previous body of work and explored a new medium; encaustic. Rather than simply invite the public to accompany him on his adventures, these compositions position the viewer in the midst of the wilderness with little to no context as to where they are. It was Jones’ intention to gauge the viewer’s level of comfort or discomfort to being dropped in this environments. The compositions were all heavily textured, bordering on relief in some instances; this was done to recreate how the places “felt”.
